About Tyler, Texas
Tyler, Texas is a city in east Texas with a population of more than 100,000 people. The city was originally founded in 1833 and named for President John Tyler. Today, Tyler is known for its music industry and connections to country music legend Merle Haggard. Tyler, Texas' history begins with it's namesake president, who was born in Orange County and grew up to become vice president of the Republic of Texas. In 1890, the city was founded by the Central Texas Railroad as a station stop for their new line. Over the next few years, several railroads were built through Tyler making it the rail center of East Texas. Today, Tyler is known as "Where Life Is Good."
