Carpet Cleaning Methods We Use

SERVPRO has developed several specialized methods to clean carpets. We’ll work with you to determine which is best for your home.

Steps_OPT_4_Updated_L4AG.svg

Deluxe Pre-Condition and Rinse

For moderate to heavily soiled carpets. A specialized cleaning product is applied to the carpet and is left on the fibers for a prescribed amount of time. Carpet fibers are then rinsed with a heated rinse solution to more thoroughly clean and leave the fibers in a squeaky-clean condition.
Steps_OPT_4_Updated_L4AG.svg

Rotary Jet Extraction

Similar to the Deluxe Pre-Condition and Rinse method, this is also effective for moderate to heavy situations. The difference is we use a powerful rotary cleaning device to attack the most stubborn soils more aggressively.

Showcase Premier Cleaning

This is the most thorough cleaning method in the carpet cleaning industry. It’s used in the heaviest of soil conditions and is the method most often used in fire damage restorations. A rotary scrubber applies the shampoo solution and aggressively agitates the soils, breaking them free of the carpet fibers. The carpet is then rinsed with a heated rinse solution.

Dry Cleaning

Some carpets are sensitive to water-based cleaning products or color-fastness is an issue. These must be cleaned with oil-based cleaning products. Depending on the size, dyes used, or type of fiber, dry cleaning can be performed by hand or with specialized equipment designed for oil-based products.

Bonnet Cleaning

This method is the least aggressive one and works best on a lightly-soiled, low-cut pile or low-level loop carpets. This method uses just a small amount of moisture, so carpets are dry within 30 minutes to an hour.

Hot Water Extraction

We use powerful cleaning tools to apply a heated cleaning solution and remove soils with a portable or truck-mounted extraction machine. This method is effective for light to moderate soil levels.

The SERVPRO Process: 7 Steps for Cleaning Carpets

4.svg

Pre-treatment and spot removal

Areas needing extra attention will be pre-treated and given additional agitation prior to the chosen cleaning method. These areas would include high-traffic and heavily-soiled areas and stains.
5.svg

Cleaning

Based on your situation, the chosen method of cleaning will be performed while striving to remove any products we use in this step of the process to avoid re-soiling of your carpet. As areas are cleaned, an air mover is placed to expedite the drying of the cleaned surfaces.
6.svg

Soil Protection

Protectants are applied to the carpet or rug surface to prevent future soils from embedding and creating unnecessary cleaning needs.
7.svg

Wrap-up

Furniture pads or blocks are placed under legs to prevent stains and allow air-flow under furniture for drying. All equipment, tools, and products are returned to the work vehicle. Courtesy mats or traffic lane paper are placed at transition points or high traffic areas to protect the freshly cleaned carpet while drying. This also reduces the likelihood of slips and falls.
1.svg

Evaluation

We identify the type of fibers to be cleaned, as well as the type of soil. Then we’ll decide the safest and most effective product and method to clean your carpet.
2.svg

Preparation

The furniture will be carefully moved and drapes are pinned or clamped to prevent them from touching the wet carpet.
3.svg

Staging

Equipment and products are staged inside the property and placed on a protective floor covering.

FAQ icon
How often should I get my carpets cleaned?

The frequency of carpet cleaning depends on several factors. Carpets in homes without children, pets or smokers should be cleaned every six to 12 months. Carpets in homes with children, pets or where smoking is occurring need cleaned more often; every three to six months.

Carpets in office buildings should be cleaned every six to 12 months, but if the office is on a ground floor, that frequency increases to every three to six months.

Can I walk on wet carpet after it’s been cleaned?

It’s best to stay off the carpet until it’s dry, if possible. We will groom the perimeter of the carpet to allow air to circulate around the fibers. If a shorter drying time is needed, we may set up air movers to blow over the carpet surface, reducing drying time.

I have spots on my carpet. Will carpet cleaning remove those?

If an accident occurs, you should try to remove the spot immediately. The longer the substance is left in the carpet the more likely it will become a permanent stain. We will pretreat traffic lanes, heavily soiled areas and any spots present. We’ll work to remove spots before cleaning your carpet and use a method/cleaner selected for the type of soil that created the spot.
