Oshkosh was incorporated as a city in 1853 and is the county seat, or the city where county offices are located, for Winnebago County. In 2020 it was the ninth largest city in Wisconsin. Like other cities in the Fox Valley, it was initially known for its lumber and wood industry.
Today Oshkosh is better known as the corporate headquarters for the Oshkosh Corporation, formerly known as Oshkosh Truck. The Oshkosh Corporation was founded in 1917 as the Wisconsin Duplex Auto Company to build a severe-duty four-wheel drive truck. The company is credited with multiple “firsts”. In 1955 they introduced the first truck designed specifically for hauling concrete. They are also credited with the first aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicle as well as the first rubber-tired earthmover. They have become known as a major supplier of the US Military, supplying airfield snow removers, medium and heavy tactical trucks, and two vehicles for aircraft. They have manufacturing operations in eight US states, as well as Australia, Canada, China, France, Romania, and Brazil.
But Oshkosh is perhaps best known for the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Annual Fly-In Convention or EAA Airventure at Wittman Regional Airport. The convention began about 70 years ago as a small gathering of aircraft and aviators at a small airport in the Milwaukee area. After outgrowing their space there, it was moved to Rockford, Illinois where it once again outgrew the space after about 10 years. Aviation legend Steve Wittman suggested Oshkosh as a new home. According to their website, “Oshkosh featured acreage surrounding the airport to handle the annual influx of airplanes, vehicles, and tents. There were two lengthy runways (east/west and north/south) which did not cross, allowing greater traffic movement. Oshkosh city officials eagerly sought the event and enjoy the economic boost it provided. In late 1969, the EAA board approved the move to Oshkosh.”
Today it is a weeklong event known as the Greatest Aviation Celebration. It attracts over 500,000 top government officials, corporate leaders and aviation enthusiasts and 10,000 aircraft from over 80 countries. The event brings in over $170 million to the state and local economies. For more on this great event visit:

What our Oshkosh
customers are saying
"Good job by all"
"I was very stressed and unsure about the next steps when SERVPRO arrived. My mind was quickly set at ease when C.J. said, 'This is a once-in-a-lifetime event for you, but it's just another Tuesday at SERVPRO. Let's talk about your priorities.' "
From the "Three Cheers" Section of the Dallas Morning News
“SERVPRO – The cavalry arrived on a recent Sunday afternoon to our house in the form of four bright green SERVPRO trucks with Appleton, Wis., painted on the sides. When the SERVPRO Operations manger first called us to schedule an appointment after the storm, I noticed a strange 920 area code. After making the appointment, I thought I should do a bit of work to make sure it wasn’t some sort of scam. As the Dallas Morning News Watchdog says, “It’s good to be overly careful.”
I called the local SERVPRO franchisee and found out that the company brought in over 1,000 folks from around the country to help Texans get their homes back in shape. A woman on the crew told me that this was her first time to help during a disaster and that she is proud to be helping people recover.
I am thrilled there are people like her and the rest of the team. I just wanted to say thank you and recognize all those who traveled far to help.
I’m sure there are others from around the country, and this “Three Cheers” is for all who have come here to help."
"Many many thanks for your help this morning with the furniture, having the guys help meant so much. That was so considerate of you and them to give us a helping hand. THANKS AGAIN."
"Rhonda was great -- thank you!"
"Nobody can beat the turnaround time."
