History of Wynaco

The story of Wynaco, Washington begins with a Native American tribe called the Susquahannocks who lived in this area long before Europeans arrived. A mill on Wynaco Creek in 1795 made history and brought new settlers to this area. The town of Wynaco was formally established in 1840 when it was named after a vacation spot where John Quincy Adams stayed during his presidency. The first settlers in Wynaco were gold prospectors who arrived in 1856. In 1862, when Union troops occupied Wynaco, it became the Union supply depot.
