Fort Story is a neighborhood in Virginia Beach.  It offers a distinctive combination of features such as dunes, beached, sand, surf, deep water anchorage, changing tide conditions, open land and Maritime Forest. Fort Story is 1,451 acres with wide beaches, gently washed by the waters of the Chesapeake Bay on one side and gets pounded by the surf of the Atlantic on the other. The Cape Henry Lighthouse has 191 Steps and is located within Fort Story military base, the land of this military post goes back 400 years to 1607 when colonists arrived on the Chesapeake Bay and called it Cape Henry.  Several notable units call Fort Story home such as, Navy Undersea Warfare Center, NATO Communication Logistical Activity, U.S. Marine Corps Training and Advisory Group. Army Reserve Center, and the 11th Transportation Battalion. It is the only training base for logistics over the shore operations. Being the country's premier installation for housing and training the nations Expeditionary Forces it is one command with two properties, Joint Expeditionary Base Fort Story, and JEB Little Creek. It is also home to 2,300 military personnel and 1,800 civilians.
