Harrison began as a lumber town and later became the county seat of Clare county in 1879. Today Harrison is host to many visitors throughout the year as there are many outdoor activities for all seasons of the year. Harrison has many recreational lakes, but its most popular is Budd Lake. Budd Lake is a 175 acre all sports lake in the heart of the city and on the north end of the lake sits another very popular attraction site. Wilson State park, a 36-acre park with 160 campsites is a great place to set up camp during the spring, summer and fall months in Michigan. Harrison is also home to Mid Michigan College, the larger of the two campuses, Mid Michigan is a Community College with an enrollment of around 3800, offers one and two year certificates and associates degrees and occupational and health science programs.
