Gibson City Cleanup and Restoration

Nicknamed the Big Little City, Gibson City was originally founded in 1969. Much like most of the Central Illinois region, there is a rich history in agriculture and rail related business. The founders had a lofty goal for the Gibson City area-while the grand idea of size may have never come to fruition, the Gibson City area has proved prosperous and essential in the central Illinois area. In 1901 a shoe factory was located here, providing work and services locally . Today, Gibson City remains a thriving city in Ford County, Illinois, United States. The population was approximately 3,407 at the 2010 census. Located at the intersections of IL Routes 9, 47, and 54, Gibson city is today a largely Agricultural industry based community.

The town's former newspaper was the Gibson City Courier, published from February 21, 1874 until December 30, 2015. The Courier was last owned by The Pantagraph out of Bloomington after being locally owned for several decades. This paper was the premier form of news for this largely rural area for over a century. 

A few significant individuals who have emerged from Gibson City are, Tom Bennett, current member of the Illinois House of Representatives, Gibson City native. Dwight Eddleman, legendary Illinois Fighting Illini three-sport athlete. John Arthur Love, 36th Governor of Colorado and the Director of the Office of Energy Policy in the Nixon administration-among many others.
