The Village of Downs was originally a very small community known as Delta. Delta was established by McLean County settlers in 1829. Previously, the area served as a trading post for the Kickapoo Indians. Then, when the Indiana, Bloomington and Western Railway was built in 1869, several buildings were dismantled and reconstructed further south to put the town closer to the railroad. The town was then renamed Priceville in honor of John Price. Mr. Price was a resident who owned the land near the tracks. 

In 1902, the town was once again changed to Downs. This was necessary after postal clerks commonly confused Priceville with the similarly-named Illinois town of Princeville. Downs is named for Lawson Downs, one of the area's pioneer settlers. 

Today, the Village of Downs is a popular area for young families. Fantastic schools and a growing community make for a wonderful area to raise a family. My basement flooded from June Storms -I called Serv Pro and spoke with Dave. He was extremely helpful and came out with James to assessment the basement and remove the padding under carpet which was soaked. They checked walls and for any mold. They set up blowers and pulled carpet back. Dave came back with Devon 2 more times to follow up and ensure everything was up to par.
