Herod is an unincorporated community in Terrell County, in the U.S. state of Georgia. The community was named after Old Herod, who was a Creek Indian chief. Other names that are used for this town are "Herod Town" and "Herodtown". A post office named Herrodtown was established in 1848 and closed in 1852. Not long after, a post office called Herod was in operation from 1892 until 1907. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated the place as the Town of Herod in 1901, and its municipal charter was repealed in 1912, so it’s clearly been through it’s transitions, like most of the surrounding, small Georgia towns. Some of the small elements in Herod have quite interesting and well-known history. Herod Town was one of the last remaining Indian villages in this section before European settlement. Local legend maintains that when General Andrew Jackson and his troops came through here en route to the Seminole Wars in Florida in 1818, they met with the village chief, “Old Herod” and were on friendly terms with him.
In these old, historic towns, our team feels like we have an enormous responsibility to protect and restore anything that is affected by water and fire damage incidents- both human-inflicted and natural disasters alike. After a very devastating house fire SERVPRO stepped in to do clean up and repair. Andrea, who was the office manager (I think) was a continuous support as I navigated the unknown. She was always supportive and encouraging. She was knowledgeable about things that I didn’t even know enough to have questions about. I appreciate her responsiveness and her professionalism during this difficult time. Josh was in charge of reconstructing my house. I was not initially sure it would ever be right again. He answered my MANY questions over the almost 8 months, and he did a superb job of putting my house back together better than ever. I am sure he cringed every time he saw my name on his messages, but he never acted like I was too much trouble. He was knowledgeable, patient and kind. He was definitely in charge and I wouldn’t hesitate to have him build a house for me from scratch-actually this was almost as involved as starting from scratch with the addition of dealing with smoke and water damage. You would never know there was a fire in my house and I am grateful for all the many kindnesses, and skill of Josh and his construction crew.
