Oceana is the oldest town in Wyoming County, West Virginia, and is located along West Virginia Route 10. The area was first settled in 1797 by John Cooke, and the city was incorporated in 1947 and named Oceana in honor of Mingo Chief Cornstalk's youngest daughter. Today, around 1462 people live here. The region gets some form of precipitation 157 days a year – a mix of about 47 inches of rain and 19 inches of snow. Major weather events occur in the area, including blizzards, thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and flooding.
