It was the Wisconsin River that first drew settlers to this area originally known as “Big Bull Falls” around 1837.

In 1846 Walter McIndoe was among the first men who took the lead in developing business and growth in the community. Marathon County, which is the largest county in Wisconsin, was organized in 1850 at about the same time, Big Bull Falls began to be called Wausau.  Translations of Wausau ranged from meaning “far away place” to “noise like thunder.”, the latter getting its meaning from the water rushing over the falls in the Wisconsin River. 

A short distance from Big Bull Falls you can find the Dudley Tower, also know as First Wausau Tower sitting on the shore of the Wisconsin River, it is the tallest commercial building in Wisconsin outside of Milwaukee.

Wausau has an array of cultural landmarks which include The Grand Theater, originally The Grand Opera House built in 1899. Along with The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. These cultural institutions have paved a strong commitment to arts in Central Wisconsin.

This community is also home to Granite Peak Ski Area located on Rib Mountain which is the highest skiable peak in the State and one of the oldest in the nation, opening in 1937.

Wausau has a unique combination of city living with the country just minutes away from any doorstep. Residents enjoy four distinct seasons that offer beauty and recreation year-round.

Other towns that are close by are Schofield, Rib Mountain, Rothschild, Weston, Ringle, Nutterville, Sunset, Brokaw, Granite Heights, Taegesville, Marathon City, and Little Chicago.

Our home flooded back in April with the monsoon rains & storms. Servpro was able to come quickly and efficiently help us get the water out of our finished basement. Afterwards, we had some issues with billing & difference in pricing which I was quite upset about and was debating on giving a poorer review. HOWEVER talk about a company that went above and beyond to make it right. Logan was absolutely amazing and really helped get everything squared away correctly. Highly recommend them because of great service all around and also because they are a company that can admit and correct a wrong.
