Salem, Virginia is located near the Roanoke County boundary line and is one of the two major cities in the county. It boasts over 25,373 residents and is the county seat of Roanoke County, Virginia. Salem is the home of the Salem Red Sox, Roanoke College, a thriving downtown shopping and dining area, and a variety of parks and attractions that draw in visitors. Salem is located along the Roanoke River and the Roanoke Greenway, which provides outdoor activities in a maintained space. Salem is also a great place to go antiquing and thrifting, with over a dozen locally owned shops, such as Charlotte’s Web, Salem Antique Market, Blue Moon Vintage Mercantile, and Buy the Season.

For a little bit more of a bustling atmosphere, head downtown where there is a seasonal open air market, local restaurants such as Mac and Bob’s or Frankie Rowlands, and enough shopping for a terrific afternoon out. Head down the road on Main Street to find other favorite eateries like Mama Maria’s and El Jefe for an inspired twist on favorite recipes.
