Originally part of the Henricus settlement that is now Henrico County, Chesterfield County separated from Henrico in 1749. As one of the first areas settled by English explorers Chesterfield is filled with historical areas that span the history of our nation. For example, the first hospital built in the colonies, Mt. Malady. You can visit Henricus Historical Park and be thrust back in time 400 years to a recreated version of the Citie of Henricus and learn about what life was like in this area during the colonial times. If you’re more of a nature buff than a historian there are also many parks in the county including Pocahontas Park featuring over 60 miles of trails, cabin and tent camping, pools, and even water slides. Chesterfield is also home to the Swift Creek Reservoir, a man-made lake created to provide fresh water to the county.
