The town and the county of Laurens were named after a Charleston aristocrat Henry Laurens – who was a patriot, and a statesman who became the President of the Continental Congress. Laurens was once known for tailor-made clothes. Andrew Johnson (the 17th President of the United States) established a tailor shop on the historic square.
