Cross Hill developed around two old Indian trails – The well-known Carter family constructed an Inn at the intersection of these trails and the community begin to develop with the arrival of the Georgia – Carolina and Northern Railway and became incorporated in 1890. The town has many community events throughout the year, but their largest and most popular is “Coming Home to Cross Hill” which is held each year over the Labor Day Holiday Weekend.

The town of Cross Hill is only a short drove to Lake Greenwood which is a major attraction for those visiting the Lake Greenwood area. There are various Air BNB and vacation rentals in Cross Hill to accommodate visitors to the area. Lake Greenwood is one of the most popular lakes in South Carolina with recreational activities for residents and visitors.
