Swoyersville is a borough in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The population was 5,008 at the 2020 census. Swoyersville is located within the Wyoming Valley West School District, home of the Spartans. Students from nine boroughs attend Wyoming Valley West: Courtdale, Edwardsville, Forty Fort, Larksville, Luzerne, Plymouth, Pringle, Kingston, and Swoyersville. Swoyersville’s terrain is flat in the south, with the northern part of the borough being on a hill. The majority of the borough’s land is urban, with some forest in the north.
With the Susquehanna River surrounding the town, Swoyersville is prone to flooding. Most notably in the 1972 flood. Since then, 2011 and heavy rains have followed causing flooding to the area and its surroundings.
