Berne is a small town located in Albany County, New York. Originally established in the late 1700s, the town officially became named Berne in 1825 when the post office was built. Berne is the home of many different nature attractions. Cole Hill State Forest is a 815 acre forest that includes about four miles of the Long Path, a 347-mile trail that runs from New Jersey to New York. Hiking, snowmobiling, primitive camping as well as hunting and trapping are some of the activities permitted here. Wildlife in this forest consists of rabbits, squirrels, turkeys, coyotes, mink, raccoons and red and gray foxes. The Partridge Run Wildlife Management Area is about 4,500 acres of wetland habitat, also located in Berne, NY. Other wildlife here include deer, black bears, waterfowl, squirrels  and songbirds.

They provide guided fishing trips, ice fishing trips, pheasant, rabbit, turkey, and deer hunting trips for all ages. Berne also sports several farms in the area. They participate in many different farmers markets throughout the Albany area in the summer and fall. The Partridge Run Farm and Apiary produces raw honey in both bottled and comb form. The bees create honey from the wildflowers in the meadows of the Helderberg Mountains, and they extract several times a season, allowing different tastings from summer through fall.
