Teterboro is a borough in Bergen County, NJ. As of 2010 the town’s population was 67, making it the third smallest town in the state as ranked by population. Most of the town consists of Teterboro airport which is owned and operated by the Port Authority of NY and NJ.
Teterboro was incorporated on March 26, 1917, from land that was originally part of the boroughs of Moonachie, Little Ferry, and Lodi Township. The borough was named for Walter C. Teter, a New York investment banker, who had purchased land in 1917 to build a racetrack and developed a 700-acre site by reclaiming marshland and building an airport and an 18-hole golf course. The name Teterboro was changed on April 14, 1937, to Bendix Borough, but reverted to Teterboro Borough on June 1, 1943. Fun fact: my grandfather worked here for Bendix Aviation which helped create the lunar landing module for the Apollo moon landing missions.
