The Borough of Hasbrouck Heights was established in 1894. Due to its location as a railroad hub, the name "Hasbrouck" was chosen in 1889 to honor Jacob Dillon Hasbrouck (1842–1918), general manager of the New Jersey and New York Railroad. Hasbrouck Heights borders Hackensack, Lodi, Moonachie, Teterboro, and Wood-Ridge. The town is easily accessible from Interstate 80, Route 17, and Route 46.
Hasbrouck Heights has seen its share of unusual disasters including several small airplanes that crashed going to or from the neighboring Teterboro Airport. In 1999 the borough hall, which also included the volunteer fire department was burned to the ground due to an electrical problem.
Notable town residents include actor Jason Biggs from the movie American Pie, NFL head coach and Super Bowl winner Bill Parcels, gangster Willie Moretti, designer Lauren Eickenberg, and singer Frank Sinatra.
Many of the town’s restaurants and shops are located along Boulevard including the KTB coffee shop, The Crow’s Nest restaurant, and Spindler’s Gourmet Butter Cookies. The Holiday Inn hotel and several fast food restaurants are located along Route 17.
