French traders arrived before 1800 and gave Grand Blanc, MI its name. It literally means "Great White" and was originally settled by Chippewa Indians. In March 1930 they became a city. Bowlers are in heaven having the largest bowling center in Genesee County, with 76 lanes, right in their backyard. Most recently, Grand Blanc is known for the EF2 tornado that touched down in the early morning hours of February 28, 2024. Winds reached 115 mph with a peak width of around 450 yards and had a total path length of 5.7 miles. It was the strongest tornado to ever strike Grand Blanc, and extremely rare given the nighttime occurrence and happening in February.
