When Congress passed the Swampland's Act of 1850, tracts of land opened for sale and were purchased by absentee owners. The Act spurred proliferation of area hunting clubs where Chicago businessmen built clubhouses and brought their families for weekend getaways. The Diana Hunt Club is still standing, though now it is a private residence.

I honestly can’t say enough good about SERVPRO of Benton, Jasper, Newton and Southern Lake Counties!  We had a major flood in our home from a broken hot water pipe last year. We were not home at the time it broke and 16 inches of 140 degree water ran into our basement, and all over our kitchen and dining room floors.  (Our tankless hot water heater worked like a champ!)  Because of the steam and the huge amount of water, everything had to be packed up and stored from our first floor.

The folks at SERVPRO were amazing!  From the top on down, every single person we dealt with was efficient, careful, personable, and most of all, compassionate.  I felt like they had our back.  With SERVPRO’s help we were able to get our home repaired and put back together better than ever.
