Columbus Junction, Iowa is a community of approximately 1,800 citizens and was platted on March 12, 1870. It is located in Louisa County. It lies at the confluence of two rivers, the Iowa and the Cedar.
It is home of the historic Swinging Bridge. The 262-foot-long steel cable and wood suspension bridge was built in 1922 as an elevated walkway connecting Third and Fourth Streets.
Tyson Foods is a modern, multi-national, protein-focused food company that has a location in Columbus Junction. In July of 2022, they donated $10,880 to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.
Columbus Junction also hosts races every Saturday night during the season at CJ Speedway. Late Models, Modifieds, Stock Cars, SportMods, and Sport Compacts race here. It is located on the Louisa County Fairgrounds.
The Louisa County Fair is held here annually at the end of July. It is typically comprised of animal shows along with a queen pageant and demolition derby at the end of the fair.
