Montverde
Montverde is on the west shore of Lake Apopka 17 miles south of Tavares and 30 miles from Leesburg. The site of an early Indian settlement, one may take note of the burial grounds, pottery, beads and arrowheads found in the area. The first residents arrived in 1865 and called the place West Lake Apopka. Tradition says it was later called “Monte Verde,” Spanish for green mountain, by someone from Vermont who came across Lake Apopka and was impressed by the rolling green hills. The Montverde Industrial School was created to educate children from families of limited means, and provide them with training for “the heart, head, and hand.” The school opened on September 23, 1912, in a two-room wooden building and a church, with two teachers and a small amount of equipment. The early years of the school were marked by fast growth and hard work. Dormitories were constructed on the campus, along with a broom factory and a canning factory. Students were expected to help earn their keep by working in various capacities on the campus. Montverde today has maintained its small town rural character and life is generally easy-going. The town has its own volunteer fire department with two fire trucks; plus a brush truck for woods fires. All parts of town are served by the municipal water system which includes a network of fire hydrants.

SERVPRO of Lake County, FANTASTIC!!! They were always on time, polite, clean and kind. We called when we flooded and they responded quickly. They stopped the water damage from spreading further and dried EVERYTHING faster than I thought was possible. They used dehumidifiers, fans, etc. and other methods to thoroughly fix our "disaster" and give piece-of-mind to our family. The stayed long enough and used all the equipment needed for as long as it was needed. They constantly checked the moisture levels in the rooms of the house to ensure the floors and walls were completely dry and mold-free.
