Cinco Bayou is a small town in Okaloosa County, Florida, on the western part of the panhandle. That description is nearly as long as the town’s size; the last census showed it had fewer than 400 residents. The area is small as well – only about .20 (one/fifth) of a square mile. Cinco Bayou is an island surrounded by the city of Fort Walton Beach.
Cinco Bayou was incorporated on July 3, 1950, at a meeting held in the Cinco Bayou garage. There were approximately 60 people at the meeting, which was out of 250 residents, some of whom were far too young to vote.
In case you need reminding: Hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30 – not that we expect storms to rely on the calendar. Even smaller storms can cause significant water and mold damage, and they can shred wiring or include hazards that lead to fires. Check with the National Hurricane Center or with the Okaloosa County website for news and updates about hurricanes and tropical storms. Recent weeks have shown that the season is far from over.
