Placerville, a town located in the foothills along Highway 50 was previously known as “Dry Diggins” after the discovery of gold and miners moved cartloads of dry soil to run water to separate the gold from the soil and “Hang town” for the numerous hangings and lynching that occurred in the town. Local churches requested for a more friendly name to be bestowed upon the town which resulted in Placerville – City of Placerville, which is the third largest town in California. Its rich history consists of being a central hub for the region’s mining operations which the town covered for transportation, lodging, banking, and markets. Now, the city of Placerville’s history of mining is evident with a museum that hosts tours and books. Placerville has several landmark buildings listed as on the National Register of Historic Places such as Fountain-Tallman Soda Works. The once soda water factory has now been converted into a museum which was originally named the Placerville Historical Museum. Another nearby landmark/soda works building was listed on the national Register of Historic Places in Placerville, John Pearson Soda Works, a Victorian brick building which housed a theater, antique store, bookstore, music store, and coffee shop. The building John Pearson Soda Works had water damage and resulted in the SERVPRO franchise assisting and providing water damage restoration.
