Nestled in Bibb County, this small town originally emerged near mines owned by the Cahaba Coal Company. The city was officially incorporated in 1901, but just two years later disaster struck with a tornado. It disaster happened again in 1916 with a flood and then in 1927, a major fire. The town's history has a backbone of resilience as it was rebuilt each time. The town has grown leaps and bounds with popular spots like Lemley's Tiger Hut, West Blocton Municipal Building, and Big Wood Clothing. The town has a number of green spaces like Liberty Park and West Blocton Coke Ovens Park tare well-maintained community parks, providing a perfect retreat for families and friends for peaceful escapes and outdoor fun. Friends and family also come together to support their youth at West Blocton Ball Park, where kids compete in baseball games. The youth really come to life during homecoming season for the high school and middle schoolers, which are overseen by the Bibb County Public Schools. Community spirit does not lack around here, as evident in events such as the Cahaba Lilly Festival in May, which features lectures, craft vendors, a luncheon, canoe tours of the blooming area and crowns seven queens and two overall photogenic winners. For Veterans Day, the mayor and council provide a Veterans Luncheon to honor the community who has served. For fall festivities, Main Street is closed for trick or treating, and the community interacts together with the Mayor's Costume Contest via Facebook. WB First Baptist also gives hayrides from Tiger Hut to the church. Another event that happens during the winter is the Christmas Parade on main street, as the parade stops at town hall for hot chocolate and promotes a Tinsel Trail at the coke ovens. SERVPRO of Centreville, Marion, and Selma was referred to us due to the influx of claims received by the franchise that usually services our area following Winter Storm Fern. Travis and his team were nothing less than a complete Godsend during the chaos of two tankless water heaters freezing and bursting…subsequently flooding both floors of our home. Throughout the entire process Travis was professional, knowledgeable, and most of all… kind. This was a new experience for us, and definitely something outside of our comfort zone, but we were kept informed and up-to-date throughout it all which helped to make an unfortunate situation easier to handle. The team was thorough and helped us with adequate and appropriate documentation and pictures to support our insurance claim all while dealing with a less than accommodating insurance adjuster.
