In 1924, the small town of Midwest, WY was named. Originally named Home Camp, this little tent city was erected for the families of oil workers in the Salt Creek Oilfield. Located 40 miles north of Casper, the town of Midwest currently has approximately 261 residents. Midwest and the Salt Creek Oilfield have a long history within the oilfield, producing roughly one-fifth of the United States petroleum in the 1920’s.
A fascinating landmark in Midwest is the Salt Creek Museum, giving tourists and locals a look inside the history of this little town, including the infamous Teapot Dome Scandal from the early 1920’s. Also, the home of the DOE’s Rocky Mountain Oilfield Testing Center is located at the Teapot Dome as of 1993. Featuring the original white football, the Salt Creek Museum goes into the history about Midwest having the very first successful “Friday Night Lights”. With a friendly football game between Midwest and Casper, the Midwest Oil and Refining Company brought in giant floodlights, giving the workers, friends, and families the ability to participate in and witness a game at nighttime.

Shout out to Miamie Sleep and her staff at SERVPRO! They stepped in on an emergency for one of my elderly clients on THE WEEKEND and on SHORT NOTICE and didn’t charge thousands of dollars. The crew that came was friendly, extremely thorough, and didn’t act put out at all. They preserved my client’s dignity and I’m so grateful for them turning a terrible situation around in a hurry!
