Established just north of the Teapot Dome in 1923, Edgerton was made to house the families of the Salt Creek Oil Field workers and is the site of the Naval Oil Reserves. In 1997, Midwest and Edgerton signed an agreement with the Central Wyoming Regional Water System to bring in drinking water from the North Platte River, solving an issue that both towns were suffering from.
