In 1838, Hartland (formally known as the Town of Warren) was named after its first settler Stephen Warren. When the Watertown Plank Road was completed through Hartland, farmers were able to use it as a “highway” for bringing their grains and hops to the Milwaukee breweries.
The village of Heartland became incorporated on January 18, 1892. Today Heartland is not known as much as a farming community, but a bedroom community where professionals who work in the Milwaukee area can live and commute.
