Your Sandston Fire and Water Damage Pros

During the height of WWI on a six hundred acre plot of land owned by the government, a factory was constructed to assist in the efforts of the war, as well as over 200 houses meant to provide homes to the plant’s workers and enlisted members of the military. After the war ended the factory ceased production and the land, along with the homes on it, was purchased by the owner of the Richmond-Fairfield Railway, Oliver J. Sands in 1921. Originally the town was called Fairfield, but due to there already being a Fairfield, VA the town was named after the man primarily responsible for its success, and thus the City of Sandston was born. With only 400 original residents, as one of the first suburban cities to begin on the outskirts of the city of Richmond, it was meant to provide affordable housing to those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city into suburbia.

The city continued to be expanded and during WWII the Richmond Army Air Base was constructed adjacent to Sandston. This military air base is now home to the Richmond International Airport. Many of the buildings that were built in the 1920s still exist today, allowing for an exhibition of early 20th century architecture, and the historic district of Sandston was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2021. Because of the age of some of its buildings, the risk for more severe fire and water damage is higher in Sandston than in some places so it’s important to work with a restoration company that has the experience and resources to tackle all kinds of restoration efforts. Thursday night we had an unexpected sewer backup which flowed out of the commode onto the floor and into the laundry room, an office & den. Finally through a wall and into our shop & storage area. It was shocking to say the least! I contacted our insurance company and within 90 minutes a field manager arrived and surveyed the entire damaged areas with a digital 360 degree camera which automatically measured each area. About 90 minutes later a clean up team of 3 arrived. Zulay, Jose and team leader Wilber did an excellent job from start to finish on what I call a daunting task. Today we have about 10 industrial fans and 4 industrial dehumidifiers sucking the water out of the air and drying the floors walls & baseboards. A big job done well from the Servpro dispatcher to Hampton McClellan the field manager to the cleanup team Wilber, Zulay and Jose. I highly recommend Servpro if you ever have a plumbing or other emergency in your home.
