What was once mostly rural farmland is now a growing suburban community of Richmond, Virginia. In the beginning, the settlement was once known as Mountain Road Crossing when rail service began in 1836, but Glen Allen got its namesake from a local landowner, Mrs. Benjamin Allen. While it’s a small land area of less than 10 square miles on the northwest end of Richmond, this Henrico community has plenty to keep its residents entertained.
As it was once a rural community, the parks in Glen Allen are a beautiful place to spend time in nature. History buffs can take a trip to Crump Park and visit the Meadow Farm, an 1860 historical site that gives a glimpse into the life of the rural community just prior to the civil war. If hiking is more your speed, you can check out the trail at Echo Lake Park and maybe catch a few fish too! The Glen Allen Cultural Arts Center is a great place to take some classes or explore the four art galleries inside!
