What is the history of Veyo?
The history of Veyo, Utah dates back to 1854 when Mormon missionaries came to the region and settled. Their purpose was to help protect wagon trains traveling through Emigration Canyon. Today, Veyo is a small town with just a few hundred residents. However, it is known for its pink rock bluffs that are very close to Zion National Park and its red cliffs that rise up dramatically. The town was originally named Tolchester, but the name changed after 1916 when an enterprising man with a dream decided to build his own town and name it Veyo (Utah). The story goes that he had a dream that he would build the first gasoline station in this area and he eventually did just that. From then onwards, locals used to refer to their community as 'Veyo' instead of Tolchester.
