About Sattler, TX

Sattler, Texas is located about 10 miles northwest of New Braunfels and is sometimes referred to as Mountain Valley after the local school or Walhalla after the Walhalla Singing Club that was organized in 1877 in the area.

Sattler started as a small community and is now considered part of the Canyon Lake area. Canyon Lake is a census designated place north of New Braunfels that had a population of around 30,000 people as of the 2020 census.

History of Sattler, TX

The post office was first established and named after William Sattler. Sattler opened the post office in his home in Comal Town in 1846. By 1853, Sattler had moved his settlement to Mountain Valley. Not long afterwards, the post office was moved to the general store, which became an epicenter for farmers and ranchers in the area to gather socially and for business. The population of Sattler really didn't grow at all until after WWII. The population boomed afterwards with the construction of a dam nearby.
