About Anderson Mill, TX
Anderson Mill is a former census-designated place and current neighborhood in Austin, Texas. Anderson Mill spans two counties - Travis and Williamson. The population of the neighborhood is around 7,000 people.
The neighborhood is about 13 miles to the north of the center of Austin. It includes a total of 1.4 square miles, all of it land.
The weather in Anderson Mill is similar to that of the rest of Austin. Most of the year is mild, making it a great place to get outdoors. Highs range from 61 degrees Fahrenheit to 96 degrees Fahrenheit depending on the time of year.
History of Anderson Mill, TX
The neighborhood gets its name from its founder, Thomas Anderson, who moved to the area in the 1850s from Virginia and set up a mill to make gunpowder for the Confederate army.
In 1876, the town got a post office, but it was closed in 1884. As of that year, there were 30 people in the town. Ten years later, Anderson died and the town became abandoned. The area did not see growth again until the late 20th century.
The area is currently a limited district, which allows them to retain possession and maintenance of Pecan Creek Park and the many other parks, courts, and pools in the neighborhood.
