The Town of Williston, South Carolina is located on U.S. Highway 78 near the town of  Barnwell. It is named after the Willis family, early settlers in Barnwell County. The major railroad of Charleston to Hamburg was being constructed in the early 1800s, causing small towns to spring up in response to the new industrial growth. Following this, a member of the Willis family donated land for the local town to begin establishment. The Willis family sought for the construction of a church and government offices to begin. A popular restaurant in Williston is called Meeting on Main. Located on Main street in the downtown area, Meeting on Main boasts local southern food and comfort meals in a buffet style setting. There are also multiple places in Williston to experience horseback riding and riding lessons which is a unique industry to the area. Williston is a lovely small town nestled close to the larger town of Aiken, South Carolina.
