The Town of Williston, South Carolina is located on U.S. Highway 78 near the town of Barnwell. It is named after the Willis family, early settlers in Barnwell County. The major railroad of Charleston to Hamburg was being constructed in the early 1800s, causing small towns to spring up in response to the new industrial growth. Following this, a member of the Willis family donated land for the local town to begin establishment. The Willis family sought for the construction of a church and government offices to begin.
