If it wasn’t for Clemuel G. Ricketts the community of Orangeville would never have been settled. In 1822 Ricketts who was an Ohio Native was originally settling near Knob Mountain but there were other settlers established there, that’s where he discovered Orangeville. There were several buildings including a house and tannery were erected in the area, and once there were five or six a post office was built. Orangeville was chosen over different names from Knobtown, Rickettsville and the Trap. It was chosen after Orange County, NY and Orange, NJ. The first business was built in the community in 1853 making plows and grain-threshers.
