The land area of Morrell Park was originally the 300-acre summer home estate of Edward and Louise Morrell. Colonel Edward deVeaux Morrell was a lawyer and was a US congressman from 1900 to 1907. The Morrells built their summer home near what is now Morrell and Frankford Avenues, one of the five homes they owned. Louise Morrell’s uncle was the founder of Drexel University. Morrell Park has homes built along the Byberry Creek that leads into the Poquessing Creek. To avoid interfering with the creek the roads are uniquely shaped and notoriously windy. The creek provides scenic views for residents however the near proximity has caused flooding concerns.
