The first settlers began to arrive in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania in the late 1700s. These early settlers were primarily farmers and worked hard to turn the area into an agricultural and commercial center for mid-Atlantic region. Martinsburg, Pennsylvania is an unincorporated community that has grown up around a once important junction of three major routes in Fayette County. While it was established in 1766, the actual town site of Martinsburg didn't begin to develop until 1809 when William Mauck purchased land along the Juniata River. Over the years, Martinsburg has had many businesses come and go, but still remains one of the most popular small towns in Central Pennsylvania today.
