Johnson City was founded in the mid 1870’s by settler James Polk Johnson who favored its location near Pedernales river; the village was named in his honor in 1879. On June 26th , 1970 the residents of the trailer court owned by Delbert Johnson voted 49 to 10 to incorporate. Johsnon had started the development in 1959 and in 1968 was unsuccessful in having the area annexed to Gladstone. In 1969 the 55th Oregon Legislative Assembly established a boundary review board to prevent an increase in small incorporated cities, but proponents of Johnson City incorporation  had filed for an election before the law took off.  The City hall located in Johnson City is located across the street from Mordock Park and Lake LEona.Johnson city receives an annual precipitation of 48 inches. Precipitation includes rain and liquid equivalent to snow, hail, freezing rain , sleet.
