Damascus can date its existence as a community back to 1867, interesting enough it was after a post office by that name was established. That post office closed in 1904, the original heart of the community belongs to Oregon route 212, which as of 2004 served as part of the city's southern boundary. Damascus was established in 1867 as previously mentioned, it was incorporated in 2004 in an effort to enable local land use decision-making controlled by the community. The residence voted to disincorporate in 2016, and after that legal challenge its disincorporation was completed in 2020, Damascus is located in east of Happy Valley and Interstate 205 and west of Boring. Damascus sits 712 feet above sea level, according to the United States Census Bureau, the city had a total area of 16.14 square miles of which originally 6.04 was land and 0.10 was water. As of 2020 there are currently  about 11,100 people in Damascus. There are currently 27 schools and 409 businesses located in Damascus.  Damascus has 9 Preschools, 8 Elementary Schools, 4 Middle Schools, 1 High School , 2 Public District School, One Public Charter School, and lastly 6 Private institutions .
