The Village of Lodi, OH located between Cleveland and Akron, was the first settlement established in Medina County, OH.  During the War of 1812 the American Militia was in need of supplies, so an east to west road was established which is now Route 224 and 76.  Usage of the road began to increase due to the automobile and St. Route 42 became a major roadway connecting North to South.  Lodi became a junction site where East to West intersected with North to South.  This area was known as the “most traveled rural mile in the state of Ohio”.  With all major highways passing thru Lodi, the trucking industry boomed.

The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad ran from Akron to Chicago Junction and was the major hauler until the 1930’s. The Village’s railroad arches are now on the National Registry of Historical Places.  The Lodi Lumber Company was established in 1911 and is still an important part of Lodi, OH history.

With the construction of major highways, Lodi may not be the “gateway” from North to South as it once was, but it still has small-town charm and wonderful parks.
