Cookstown, NJ is a small community located in Burlington County, New Hanover Township formed by royal charter in 1723. New Hanover was one of the original 104 townships formed by the New Jersey legislature in 1798.
Cookstown sits on the edge of the Fort Dix military base, now the joint base of McGuire-Dix Military Base. The town is a small community and home to Edward Settle Godfrey, medal of honor recipient Cavalry General who served in both the Civil War and Indian Wars. Brigadier General Godfrey is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
