Berkeley Township is approximately 54.25 square miles with a population of a little over 43,000. We are in the central part of Ocean County, along the Atlantic Ocean and Barnegat Bay. There is always something to do here especially in the warmer months. At Double Trouble State Park you can hike through pine forests and cedar swamps, canoe and kayak on Cedar Creek. This creek used to supply a large cranberry operation but is now a deserted “ghost town” in the center of the park. Veteran’s Park has so much to offer for all ages. Amphitheater for outdoor summer concerts, a skate park, golf course, softball, football and soccer fields along with Bocce ball, volleyball, handball and horseshoes. There are three separate playground areas and a covered picnic area to sit in the shade on hot, sunny summer days.
A must for a photo-op is the Bayville Dinosaur on Route 9. He is a local is nearly a hundred years old. He has also been called Ruggles and DEE-no but more recently named Bud. There is no shortage of fabulous food here. If you are looking for a restaurant that offers indoor and outdoor seating that offers the view of the Barnegat Bay don’t miss MJs and B2 Bistro. For dessert, visit Miss Mindy’s, where you can actually order a six pack of homemade ice cream!
Between the ocean and the bay, we have lots of things to do on or near the water. That also means we are at a higher risk for water damage.
