The city of Mapleton, North Dakota was platted in 1876, sometime around when the railroad was extended out that way. The city was named after the Maple River that runs right outside the town.
Mapleton is located straight west of Fargo about fifteen miles. According to the 2020 census, the population was 1,320. For being a small town, Mapleton has a lot to do in town and nearby.
