The Horace Post Office has been in operation since 1875. The city was actually founded seven years later in 1882. The town was named after Horace Greeley, who was an editor of the New York Tribune. Greeley highly encouraged western development with the motto “Go West, young man”. The city is in what was to be considered a prime location, bordered by both the Red River and Sheyenne River. However, flooding became an issue and eventually canals were put in to prevent the city from flooding.
Today, according to the 2020 census, the population of Horace is 3,085. Making Horace the sixteenth largest city in North Dakota. The city is a suburb of Fargo, giving residents the ability to make a quick drive into the city if needed. Surrounding Horace there is Meadowlark Park, Bear Creek Winery and the Shooting Park.
Horace, North Dakota is a charming little town that is the perfect distance from tons of entertainment. Many people who prefer a smaller community, but enjoy the city once in a while, live here. Horace has its own high school and elementary schools, making it a nice community to live in if you have a family.
