In the 1800’s the town was an important trading center for nearby plantations. It had a courthouse, jailhouse, and a Masonic Lodge. In 1866 the Union Forces destroyed the Masonic Lodge. Livingston used to be the county seat, but it was moved to Canton, MS. The railroads got established across the country and Livingston had been bypassed. By the 1940s, Livingston had lost its charter and was demoted from a town to an unincorporated community. The town dwindled to nothing. Land developer and history buff, David Landrum, saw the location and could not ignore the beauty the area offered or the potential. In 2012 there began new development to rebuild Livingston. It included a farmers market, church, and restaurants with entertainment that has attracted performers like Travis Tritt.
