Columbus is known as St. Clair County's ghost town. It was originally just a postal stop and also had a railroad track, but once the postal office closed, there were no other businesses left except the old grain elevator. The city is best known for its county park. The Belle River runs through the park and an old train bridge can be seen full of graffiti while walking along the trail next to the river. The park also contains a playground and a large hill that is perfect for sledding in the winter. Columbus County Park is also a great photography destination, as beautiful fall colors can be captured towards the end of the year, and great photos can be taken of the peaceful environment in the summer, as well. The park is also a great place to walk with a friend and catch up on things. Columbus is also home to a disc golf course and several competitions are held throughout the year.
