A neighborhood located in Beverly; Montserrat is home to some interesting history. The area that is now Montserrat was once home to the “Parramatta” house, a residence built by businessman Henry W. Peabody in the 19th century. The house was eventually leased to President William Howard Taft as the “Summer White House” in 1911 and 1912. Taft would vacation there to get away from the pressure of Washington D.C., but he inadvertently put Montserrat “on the map.” When Montserrat gained national fame, it became a more attractive place for people to move to and vacation in. Some of the people who chose Montserrat and the Beverly area as a vacation spot decided to stay. But most of the residents were Massachusetts folks who moved in to fill much-needed roles in Beverly’s industrial sector.
Montserrat might seem like a blip on the radar but holds some of Beverly’s amazing nightlife and restaurant spots. The Cabot Theater is renowned in small intimate concerts and events. This area also houses the Cummings Center, a large industrial park and office center that used to be a shoe factory, and Beverly Depot, an MBTA stop on the commuter rail. My event started with a tree crashing through the roof during a heavy rainstorm. I called SERVPRO of Beverly/Cape Ann and they had a Project Manager on-site within hours to evaluate water damage. Water remediation began the very next day and demo followed by reconstruction all occurred in a very short time span. Communication during the process was A+. They worked closely with my insurance appraiser which made the whole process that much smoother.
