Mechanicsville is a city in Cedar County, IA, United States. The population was 1,020 at the time of the 2020 census. Mechanicsville was platted in 1855 by Daniel A. Comstock. It was named from the fact several of its first settlers were mechanics. As the village was made up of hard-working men, carpenters, masons, wheel wrights, John Onstott decided “Mechanics” and –ville would make a good name for the “village”, so thus it was named and still remains.
