Maxwell, Iowa, is a town featuring a population of 859 (2020 U.S Census) residents in Story County, located in Central Iowa. It is part of the Ames Metropolitan Statistical Area, and is where this author grew up for 20+ years. Maxwell is home to the Collins-Maxwell Community School district, consisting of a middle and high school in Maxwell, and an elementary school in nearby Collins. The two towns are separated by a 5-minute drive along county highway 210, which curves through the middle of Maxwell. Maxwell is home to the Story County Freedom Rock, as well as the best local sandwich shop and grocery store, Logsdon’s Grocery, owned by brothers Jay and Tom Logsdon. The city is home to two separate historical museums, the Maxwell North Museum, and the Maxwell South Museum.
